Originally from Redding, California, Ty Tuschen is an in-demand freelance guitarist in the New York City area, known for his stylistic versatility and command of jazz, rock, folk, funk, soul, blues, and country music. He has toured with folk-soul singer-songwriter Numa Edema, opening for icons Stephen Stills and Judy Collins. From December, 2017, until September, 2018, Ty held a twice weekly residency at The Grand Ole Opry's first home away from home in NYC, Opry City Stage, with the talented singer-songwriter, Bobby McGrath (and often perfomred with other bands at Opry, including Spinn and CC and the Boys). In addition to the Opry residency, Ty has traveled with Bobby to Nashville to perform at Ole Red, and has opened with him for Trace Adkins, Lee Brice, and Lee Ann Womack on select tour dates.
Since April, 2014, Ty has held the guitar chair in Paul Loren's "One-Night-Only Band." With Mr. Loren, he has opened for James Hunter, The Temptations, and had the thrill of providing entertainment for Jennifer Lopez's 47th birthday party at the penthouse of Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. He records regularly with Paul, and has become a fixture in his sold-out live performances at Joe's Pub in NYC. Paul's moving and powerful song, "I Know a Place," the recording for which Ty performs the guitar parts, debuted in late October of 2017 on Huffington Post, to over 250,000 plays.
Other artists Ty has worked with include Ariana Savalas, of Postmodern Jukebox fame, American Idol/Broadway star, Constantine Maroulis, and rising country star, Risa Binder. Ty has opened for artists Drew Baldridge, Smithfield, and Lanco while performing with Spinn.
As an educator, late 2016, Ty shared his deep understanding of delta blues guitar when he was selected to prepare acclaimed actor, Tristan Mack Wilds, for his role in a short film, "Last Fair Deal," about the mythic Robert Johnson.
Aside from freelance sideman work and teaching, Ty keeps a busy schedule with studio session work and leading creative projects of his own. As a bandleader, Ty's jazz ensemble, "The Ty Tuschen Trio," continues to receive many bookings for weddings and corporate events, including a performance at a star-studded gala at the Natural History Museum in New York City for the David Lynch Foundation, where speakers and honorees included Michael J. Fox and Arianna Huffington.
